MAN eTGL Launches Electric Refrigerated Truck Model at Solutrans 2025

Introduction to MAN eTGL’s Innovations in Electric Refrigerated Transport

The MAN eTGL truck introduces a new era of electric-powered refrigerated transport designed especially for temperature-sensitive cargo such as foodstuffs. This 12-ton electric truck model was launched at the Solutrans 2025 exhibition in Lyon, marking a significant step forward in urban and regional supply chain solutions.

Evolution of Electric Trucks and Refrigerated Logistics Over Two Decades

Over the past twenty years, the transportation industry has steadily progressed from conventional diesel trucks to cleaner electric alternatives, fueled by rising environmental concerns and advances in battery technology. Initially, electric trucks were limited by range and payload capacity, restricting their usability mostly to small delivery vehicles. However, recent developments in modular electric powertrains and battery systems, like those integrated into the MAN eTGL, have expanded applications to include refrigerated logistics—a niche that demands precise temperature control and silent operation.

Moreover, the modular design philosophy pioneered in larger electric trucks has enabled manufacturers to tailor powertrain and battery configurations across various vehicle classes, making electric solutions feasible from light delivery trucks up to heavy-duty long-haul vehicles.

Current Advancements and Impact on Freight Carriers

Today’s electric trucks like the MAN eTGL offer ranges up to 310 kilometers on a single charge, which can be stretched up to 600 kilometers with rapid mid-route charging capabilities. This range covers the typical daily mileage for many urban and regional delivery routes, allowing freight carriers to operate quietly and emission-free within city environments where noise and pollution restrictions are tightening.

By adopting the MAN eTGL and other vehicles within the MAN eTruck family, carriers can reduce fuel expenses and potential carbon-related regulatory costs. The innovative high-voltage interface allows direct power supply to refrigerated units, eliminating additional fuel consumption for cooling systems, thereby optimizing both weight and energy use.

This transform in truck design also includes advanced driver-assist features and energy recovery systems, improving overall efficiency and potentially boosting carriers' profits by reducing downtime and fuel dependency.

Proven Efficiency Through Modular Design

The MAN eTGL shares its modular electric chassis and battery system with its heavier siblings—the eTGX and eTGS models—allowing scalable configurations based on transport needs. The battery packs are manufactured in MAN’s Nuremberg plant, with each unit delivering 80 kWh of usable energy. The modular system facilitates tailored solutions for diverse logistics sectors, whether urban delivery fleets, refrigerated transport, or heavy-duty freight.

Such modularity is crucial for freight carriers seeking flexibility without compromising the operational capabilities of electric trucks. It enables them to optimize their fleet configuration and maximize cargo capacity according to specific customer demands.
